My goal is to create interesting and beautiful sculptures. I work intuitively, starting at the bottom of the piece, building and adding until it feels complete. Patrick has his copper plates spun into the bowl or plate shapes, then adds the coloration with an oxygen/acetylene torch. He seals each piece with a commercial lacquer that chemically bonds with the copper to protect the colors and prevents tarnishing.

Patrick Shannon is from Vergas in Northern MN. His artistic career began with clay and he worked as a full time potter for many years before shifting to metals, including copper, steel, stainless steel, bronze and core-ten steel.
